When I wrote, "If I Should Die Before I Wake," it was a bit of an experimental effort. First of all, I wanted to write a gangster story, something I had never done before. At the same time, there was a "Twilight Zone" type of plot that was going to be running through the story. I was far from certain if this would work within the gangster genre, but that was pretty much the only way the story could be told. Then, once the story stretched out to around 60 pages, I had a bit of a monster on my hands, and wasn't sure what to do with it. That's when I decided to try the e-book route.
I don't know if the experiment worked or not, but I still had lots of fun writing the story, and I think it's also fun to read. Now you too, dear reader, will get the chance to see if the great experiment was worth the effort, because from April 14 to April 18 you can download a free Kindle version of "If I Should Die..." from Amazon. After that, I will eventually unpublish it, and probably post the full story on my Short Stuff page, instead of the excerpt that is there now. There really wasn't much money in trying to sell an overly-long short story for 99 cents, so I've decided to let it go out with a bang, and just give it away for free. Enjoy.
