A mild mannered mob accountant embezzles millions of dollars from his boss, who then sends a hired killer across the country to hunt him down. Terrified, the accountant hides out in cheap, out of the way motels, aware that he lacks the strength or the courage to defend himself against the approaching hit-man. Except when he sleeps: in his dreams he is the powerful hunter, instead of the cowering prey. As the killer closes in on him, the line between dreams and reality gets blurred.

5 stars: "If I Should Die Before I Wake plunges the reader into a noir world of shadows and pursuit. From the start, Simon’s desperation and regret taste like a shot of rotgut whiskey whose burn lingers too long in the gut. Just like Simon, I too was looking over my shoulder just a few pages in." Reader review on Goodreads.
5 stars: "Simon Wallis is a criminal on the run from his boss after he is discovered embezzling money. Frank Burke is the assassin sent to Montreal to kill him. If Simon is unlikable, Frank is a pure psychopath, ready to kill anyone to protect his identity. Though both are well drawn, we don't learn a great deal about either's past. And we don't need to. The thrill of the chase and its ultimate outcome is enough." From The Photocosm Blog
5 stars: "I love crime fiction like this. If I Should Die Before I Wake is full of creativity, action, and thought-provoking writing. From the very first page, Simon Wallis displays a life of desperation on the run from a hired killer. The narrative is well-rounded and has enough detail to give you the full flavor of both the main character's mindset and his gritty surroundings in the dark underbelly of America and Canada."
